Even if you spent months with a web design, creating the most incredible ecommerce website on the net, unless you have traffic, people interested in buying what you sell, it would all have been wasted time and effort. The same is true when you place affiliate programs or banner advertisements on your website. Unless the links make sense by helping to drive more traffic, it is simply a wasted effort. The goal with any website it to make your site visible, building your customer base. Obviously, without traffic, your website will not survive.
Even when you have affiliate banners on your web design pages, that does not automatically mean every person who visits your site is going to click on them. Therefore, the ads are simply taking up space, while earning you zero money. A common mistake is overloading a website with so many banners that the site ends up looking unprofessional, while actually becoming a huge annoyance to the people who visit. Instead, be aware of promotions that are too aggressive, choosing what works with your website and keeping it simple and clean. The result in time will be more traffic, which equates to more money.
